Every number needs a period, a source and a clear explanation of what was counted.
What does this number cover?
A published worldwide total, a subtotal of reporting organisations, and the number of records in this platform answer different questions. Look for the reporting count beside a measurement. “Records on file” is not a worldwide census.
“Not reported” means a figure is missing. Zero means a source reported zero. “Not applicable” means the measure does not apply. Missing records must not become zero or an implied negative assessment.
Compare the same period
The reporting year describes the observation, not the date this website was updated. Institution statistics use the latest stored observation per record; the year selector filters those observations and is not a complete historical archive.
Older observations remain useful on individual profiles. They are not added to newer observations to claim current worldwide enrolment, beds or programmes.
Compare like with like
Choose the same measurement, reporting year and organisational level. A system can contain many facilities or campuses: counting the system alongside its parts can count the same activity twice. Combined institution totals are withheld while those relationships remain unresolved.
Country, state and city describe geography. Division, union and conference describe church organisation. A source region is preserved as supplied and is not automatically an organisational division. Changes in boundaries can also make growth rates non-comparable.
Mission-support tiers are assessments requiring context. A membership decline alone does not establish a community’s needs or the quality of its ministry.
Distinguish evidence from interpretation
Research findings, reviewer assessments, theological commentary and community notes are different kinds of information. Evidence scores express reviewer judgement; they do not guarantee that a finding is true. Read limitations, source counts and review dates alongside the summary.
Community feedback on a church describes submitted experiences. It is separate from official annual filings and should not be read as a measure of the whole congregation.
